About the artist
Born in Malaysia, lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Chuyia explores between painting, installation art, digital representation and performance art. Her works focuses on global issues especially concerning in living environment and nature, food, identity and culture. She expressed meaning through action, looking for perspectives on how body language and action performs in difference contexts that able to communicate to the viewer. She combined art performance, handcraft, drawing, moving and still images, continues to explore different art forms with open mind.
Her artistic participation includes, ‘Singapore Biennale 2016 at Singapore Art Museum’, ‘The Supermarket of Images 2020 Jeu de Paume Paris and Red Brick Museum Beijing’, ‘The Body Politic and the Body 2019 Ilham Gallery Malaysia’ and ‘Earth 2021 Havremagasinet Sweden’. She’s had her solo exhibitions at Trollhättan Konsthall in 2018 and Skövde Konstmuseet in 2020. Her artistic involvements spanning over 35 countries across Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa, resonates diverse cultural contexts.
