Charles Dreyfus
French performer, poet, exhibition author and art historian. In the 1970s, he participated in most appearances of the New York avant-garde, especially Fluxus. In 1978 his first artistic publication was published; in 1985–1991 he ran the Kanal Magazine. Co-author of the collective manifesto "Constitutional Resolution of the International Supermodernist", published (1997) in the journal "Inter: art actuel" run by Richard Martel in Québec (Canada). The manifesto condemns the cultural domination of the West, portrayed as "ferocity" leading to a lack of artistic invention; he wishes for an "accelerated degeneration of the West" which he considers "necessary for the birth of culture." Charles Dreyfus combines sound, meaning and typography with the conviction that artistic language is not so much an instrument of communication, but rather "is born spontaneously with the performance it expresses". He has collaborated with artists as diverse as George Maciunas, Dick Higgins, Ben, Michel Giroud, Richard Piegza, Julien Blaine, and Jean Dupuy.
