Roi Vaara is a widely recognized performance artist of international fame. Born in Moss, Norway in 1953 to Finnish parents. Studies: University of Art and Design, Helsinki, 1972-75; Jyväskylä University, Finland, 1976-77. He has been involved in performance art since 1982, and since 1988 he has been working in the artistic collective Black Market International. He has performed over 300 different actions presented at over 200 international exhibitions / festivals in 40 countries. In 2001, Vaara organized EXIT Festival - "Woodstock of Performance Art", where live art was presented by 300 different artists. Vaara was awarded the State Art Prize by the Finnish Ministry of Arts in 2000 and the Ars Fennica Prize by the Henna and Pertti Niemistö Foundation in 2005. In 2010, Vaara was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal of the Order of the Lion of Finland . Lives and works in Helsinki, Finland
